Second Breakfast, Then Math: Back to Homeschool

We're back to homeschool this week and so far it’s been delightful! Honestly, this feels like the best start we’ve had in all six years of our journey. Here are three things I think we (finally) got right:
We started slow. Think of it like the soft opening of a cozy little coffee shop tucked inside the Shire. For August we’re focusing only on core subjects, and we’ll add electives in September once we’ve found our rhythm.
I let go of “perfect.” In the past, I tried to orchestrate an elaborate first day with special breakfasts, decorations, matching outfits, photos, the whole shebang. It always left me frazzled (and the kids too). This year, we just began—calmly, simply, and joyfully—and it felt so much lighter.
I planned, prepared, and prayed. Three little steps, but together they made a huge difference in my own heart and mind. And of course, when the parent feels grounded, the children flourish too.
If your school year has gotten off to a rocky start, take courage. Even hobbits sometimes stumble out the door, forgetting their pocket handkerchiefs. Pause, reassess, ~breathe~, but don’t give up. Your little dragons are counting on you, and the adventure is worth it. 🐉✨
